If you’ve spotted our reins on social media or heard other riders talking about them, you might know that they’re designed to keep you and your horse safer when you’re riding. But you might be wondering: how do FR Vincitore reins work? The answer lies in a patented safety connector that no other tack or horse wear company anywhere in the world sells. Unlike traditional reins, which rely on fixed buckles that don’t easily come apart in emergencies, FR Vincitore reins are designed to separate under extreme force, reducing the chances of you or your horse getting tangled. The clever bit is that in everyday use the reins work just like any other reins, even if you’re ‘on the buckle’ over fences, sitting a huge buck or the horse takes a dive for some tasty grass! In this blog we’re exploring how our safety reins work so that you can ride with peace of mind.
Our patented, quick-release safety connector
The centerpiece of FR Vincitore safety reins is the patented safety connector, which activates under significant force to help prevent accidents. Unlike traditional reins, which often don’t break at all and can be so dangerous, this connector is designed to detach under the right type of pressure. This not only reduces the risk of injury for both rider and horse but also ensures the reins can be quickly and easily reattached, simply by unscrewing the connector, replacing the ball and then screwing it back in.
Unmatched safety under pressure
Traditional reins with fixed buckles or clips can withstand force to the point of inflicting harm, potentially causing injuries to the horse's mouth or the rider. In contrast, our innovative design provides an automatic, split-second release when enough force is applied. The quick-release mechanism ensures that the reins come apart in scenarios where the horse or rider might otherwise become tangled. For example, a horse putting a leg through threw the reins, a rider falling and getting the reins wrapped around a limb or hand, or the reins becoming snagged on a gatepost or lorry ramp.
Rigorous testing
The reins and the quick-release system were developed and rigorously tested with the help of the experts at the University of Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. The testing confirmed the connector worked how it should, coming apart under sudden and intense pressure, but allowing the reins to function as intended even under intense conditions. Our reins are approved by the FEI, British Dressage and British Eventing, so most riders can train and compete in their FRV reins.
The style and longevity of a premium pair of reins
Beyond the safety connector, our are designed for durability and elegance. You can choose from chrome or gold quick-release connectors and premium black or Havana brown leather to accent your existing tack. We have three grip styles which you can browse here, and they are all available in pony, cob and full sizes.
